Great deal of medical and social history of one of the earliest Jewish Hospitals founded in the United States. Annual Reports include lists of Association Officers, Committee Members and Benefactors (many prominent local names); Resident Physician’s Reports, budgetary and administrative details. Topics discussed include medical conditions and treatments - “Cases of Interest” - causes of death, and patient’s statistical information (age, profession, country of origin). Together with most intriguing Lists of Sundry Donations...(viz. Report of 1874): “eight cemetery lots, one horse, 4 fire axes, medical books, silver Yad, esrog and lulav, men’s underwear, 2 turkeys for Sabbath Chanuka, box of cigars, 2 gallons whiskey,...” Perhaps it is no wonder the average hospital stay was 41.8 days!
