Levirate Marriage is the union between a widow whose husband died without offspring, and the brother of the deceased (as prescribed in Deuteronomy 25:5-6). Such a marriage is a rare occurrence (due to the use of the Chalitzah ceremony) and is almost unknown in the 20th century.
