Documents include names of many Jewish families, including: Crescas, Astruc and Durand. Many concern activities relating to the town of Apt, other places include: Aix, Carpentras, Digne, Istres and Marseille. Documents relate to agriculture and other economic activities, including money-lending. Provencal Jewry at this time was an important center of Jewish scholarship, its population in 1348 probably numbered nearly 15,000. See Z. Szajkowski, Franco-Judaica (1962); H.
