“Figures and Episodes” (of the Yiddish Writer’s Club) was Singer’s ongoing episodic literary memoir of Warsaw in the 1920’s. The recipient in 1978 of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Singer’s writing most excels in the shorter form of fiction. Overall, he is no doubt the leading exponent of Yiddish imaginative prose.
