“Pann’s Biblical paintings have two aspects. On the one hand they appear to be documentary. There is an attempt to root the biblical scenes and heroes in a Mediterranean setting and in situations which appear to be authentic. On the other hand, these are the creations of a man who associated himself with French “mystic Orientalism.” His pictures contain an atmosphere and significance beyond the documentary.” Y. Zalmona, Abel Pann 1883-1963, in Mayanot Gallery Catalogue, Jerusalem (1987); Israel Museum Catalogue, Bezalel pp. 205-11.
