List distinguishing between Government-acceptable Jewish lawyers and newly unlawful Jewish lawyers. On August 8th, 1940, Romania passed discriminatory laws against Jews. This barred Jews who had naturalized or entered the country after 1918 from numerous civil activities: Purchasing property, holding public office, selling alcohol, editing newspapers, using Romanian names and practicing law. The present text served to differentiate between “legal” Jewish lawyers from those whose licenses had been revoked. In 1940 Ilfov County, which historically included Bucharest, had a Jewish presence of some 15% of the population.
