Chaim Arlozorov (1899-1933) was a leading figure in the Zionist Establishment in Mandatory Palestine. The Political Director of the Jewish Agency, Arlozoroff was largely responsible for the Yishuv’s cooperative approach with British authorities, despite the isolationist efforts of those on his right and left. Another primary accomplishment of Arlozoroff was the Ha’avara Agreement with Nazi Germany, through which over 60,000 German Jews reached Eretz Israel, most with their wealth intact. Arlosorov and his wife, Sima, were murdered by assailants while walking along the Tel-Aviv beach on June 16, 1933. The attacks roiled the nation, and the trial of three right-wing Jewish suspects was widely covered by all facets of the press. Ultimately, the suspects were acquitted, and the case has remained unsolved. Theories as to the identity of the perpetrators still abound. The assassination of Arlosoroff greatly aggravated political relations within the Zionist movement for a great many years. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Haim_Arlosoroff.
