The author was a disciple of the Maharsha’l (Shlomo Luria) and a contemporary of R. Falk, author of the Sem’a (see responsa nos. 12, 13, 22). His son was also a great scholar and composed the super-commentary Nachlath Ya’akov on Rashi, published in Cracow, 1642.
