R. Menachem Mendel Krochmal (1600-61), was a student of R. Yoel Sirkes (the Ba’Ch) and served as Rabbi of Nikolsburg, Moravia. His responsa encompasses all four sections of the Shulchan Aruch. In regard to social history, they throw light on Jewish suffering as a result of the Thirty Years War (1618-48), especially in relation to Agunoth.
