R. Yisrael Hopstein (1737-1814), known as the Maggid of Kozhnitz, was a major figure in the third generation of Hassidism. A student of the Maggid of Mehzeritch and R. Elimelech of Lizhensk, he was the founder of the Kozhnitz dynasty.
