R. Yoseph Raphael Uziel (1821-94) was Av Beth Din of the Sephardi community of Jerusalem. His son, Rav Ben-Zion Meir Hai Uziel (1880-1953), rose to become Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Mandatory Palestine, and after 1948, occupied the same position in the newly-formed State of Israel.
