A member of an ancient family who originated in Troyes, France and subsequently spread throughout Italy and Germany, the author (c. 1470–1552) migrated to Turkey, where he served as rabbi in Adrianople. He corresponded with the leading Sephardic rabbis, such as R. Elijah Mizrachi and R. Joseph Karo (see Avkath Rochel 34).
