The author (d. 1393) was a student of R. Nissim ben Reuven Gerondi (the Ra’N) and a contemporary of R. Yitzchak ben Sheshet Perfet (RiVa”Sh). A leader of the Geronese Yeshiva, he was greatly influenced by the rationalistic teachings of Maimonides. A modern critical edition of this commentary to Shir Hashirim was issued by L.A. Feldman in 1970, which includes a short biography of Tamach himsefl.
