Samuel ben Joseph of Lublin served as the rabbi of Jung Bunzlau (Mlada Boleslav) just north of Prague. This was the only work of his to be published, and reflects the increasing Ashkenazic acceptance of R. Yoseph Karo’s and R. Moshe Isserles’ codification of Halachah. Notably, the Maharal’s own brother was a fierce critic of this process. See M. Heller, The Seventeenth Century Hebrew Book, pp. 212-13.
