The author saw his Sha’arei Teshuvah as an update to the previous work Be’er Heitev on Shulchan Aruch, adding rabbis whose positions had not been included in the former work. Also included here are the glosses of R. Margalioth’s brother, R. Ephrayim Zalman. Apparently, a fire broke out in the press while this work was being printed, consuming many completed copies of the work. R. Chaim Mordechai Margalioth was left broken-hearted and deeply in debt. He would not live to see the immense success of his work, now published in almost all editions of Shulchan Aruch and Mishnah Berurah.
