The period of Shovavim, the six weeks commencing with the reading of the Torah portion of Shemoth, is traditionally a time conducive for repentance, especially for sins of lasciviousness. The collected rite of prayers, Psalms and liturgical hymns for this period of penance was instituted by R. Moshe Zacut and includes an additional prayer by R. Judah Matzliach of Padua.
