In the introduction, the editor, more readily known for his Halachic writings (especially Minchath Shmuel on Tractate Berachoth, Vilna, 1842), explains his circumstances, whereby recent illness resulted in his inability to focus upon more legalistic scholarly pursuits, thus the appearance of the present volume of prayers.
