A special issue of the Yediot Ma’ariv newspaper, issued the day of the termination of the British Mandate in Palestine. The issue expresses, in timelines, photographs, and illustrations, the falling and rising hopes of Israeli Jews during the nearly 30 years of the mandate period. In 1917, when Allenby enters Jerusalem: “The Diaspora of Israel envisions the Redemption.” In 1930, with the publication of the Passfield White Paper: “The Zionist Movement is agitated.” The paper generally bears a negative view of the British - along the center pages are the words “We built up…They destroyed.” Yediot Ma’ariv was founded in 1948 by former journalists for Yediot Achronot, the paper remains in circulation under the name Ma’ariv.
