Within the historic Meah Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem reside many of the hardline factions of Orthodox Judaism, including the base of operations of the Eidah HaChareidis. The present lot is a collection of announcements issued during the Mandate years and the first decade or so of Israel’s existence, providing a window into an otherwise cloistered community. Includes documents such as: <<*>> Call not to join a public fast day on behalf of European Jewry in the early 1940’s. <<*>> Appeal to say daily Psalms during Israel’s War of Independence. <<*>> Neturei Karta poster offering ‘Will Not Submit (to the Zionist Regime)’ certificates to all who desire. <<*>> Calls to improve the spiritual treatment of new Sephardic immigrants. <<*>> Appeal to inspect religious qualifications of various Kollel stipend recipients. <<*>> Advertisement for Rabbinic Chanukah Lectures on the topic ‘The Contemporary Hellenism’. <<*>> Call not to give support, financial or otherwise, to Jewish defense forces in 1947.
