<<A significant personal archive of a known rabbi killed in the Holocaust years. >> Rabbi Shimon Alter Frankel (1902-c.1943/44), a scion of the Frankel-Teomim rabbinic family, was a rabbi of Skawina (Skavin), Poland. This town in southern Poland was presided over by Shimon Alter’s father, Rabbi Simche Frankel, who was the Av Beth Din. Rabbi. Frankel junior established a local schooling system under the name Cheder Yesodei HaTorah. This archive includes Rabbi Frankel’s identity card (ausweis) with his photograph and signature. A second ausweis issued by the Jundenrat of Krakow in 1941 gives notice that Frankel is a rabbi and should be excused from forced labor. Some of the documents relate to Rabbi Frankel’s son, Aron Elimelech, as well as of his father, Rabbi Simche Frankel. With various passes, notices and autograph letters for Frankel from the Judenrat. The Yad Vashem Testimony for Rabbi Shimon Alter Frankel states he died in Buchenwald in 1943 or 1944. This archive pertaining to one Holocaust victim - an Orthodox Jew - is of uncommon size. <<Demands further research. >>
