<<An absolutely essential tool for genealogical research, especially for the era of the Holocaust.>> As part of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, independent Latvia came under the Soviet sphere of influence. When in the summer of 1941 Germany over-ran the country Latvia became a part of the “Reich Kommissariat Ostland.” Persecution against Latvia’s Jews was immediate, assisted by Latvian collaborationists. It is estimated that by the end of the war, 95% of Latvia’s Jewish population had been murdered.
