Lewis H. Hershfield was originally of Oneida, NY. After stints in St. Louis, and Leavenworth, KS, he relocated to Colorado when “the great gold excitement broke out.” After making a fortune from the acquisition of a great quantity of gold dust, he established a bank, which his brother joined as partner. He was a member of Montana’s Constitutional Convention in 1889.  See The Montana Blue Book (Helena, MT, 1891), p. 151, for his biography and portrait.
