Moses Michael Hays and Myer Polock. Autograph Document Signed, written to Michael Gratz.

Partners Hays and Plock supply Gratz with a statement of “Losses to be recovered in Amsterdam on Insurance ordered by Isaac Elizer.” Following this is an accounting of the insurance paid for nearly two dozen losses in pounds and guilders. “Herewith you have what you Promised.” Two pages, integral leaf with autograph address panel bearing a straight line New York postmark and bishop’s mark. 4to.

Myer Polock (d. 1779) was a Tory who declined to sign the loyalty oath on religious grounds, yet ultimately, was forced to. See Oscar Reiss, The Jews in Colonial America, pp. 53-54. Isaac Elizer (1718-1807) was a merchant shipper in Newport. He was naturalized in New York on July 23, 1763 (see Rosenbloom, A Biographical Dictionary of Early American Jews, p. 34).
