R. Nachum Shmaryahu Schechter, rabbi of Daraban, Romania, was author of Perach Shushan on Pirkei Avoth (Klausenburg, 1925) and founder of the rabbinic organization Agudath Ha’Admorim VehaRabbonim BeRomania. R. Yehuda Leib Tsirelson was both Chief Rabbi of Bessarabia and member of the Romanian parliament, while also being a widely respected and prominent Posek. This letter relates to a contentious matter concerning a Shochet whom R. Tzireslon has already disbarred. R. Schachter states that the matter has divided his town into two enemy camps and wishes for the matter to be reconsidered. R. Tzireslon emphatically holds his position and states that he no longer wishes to hear anything further on the matter. Moreover he states, “should the Shochet decide to discuss this with me in person - he will have done nothing but waste his travel expenses.” <<A leading Posek holds firm to his Psak despite social unrest.>>
