R. Menachem Mendel was the son of R. Dov Berish of Biala (1820-76) and grandson of R. Avraham of Tshechanov (1784–1875). After his father’s passing, R. Menachem Mendel associated with the Chasidic court of Alexander. When in 1910, R.Yerachmiel Yisrael Danziger, the Yismach Yisrael, Admor of Alexander, died without a son to succeed him, R. Menachem Mendel established the Chasidic court of Strikov. Brother of R. Amram Blau, the founder of Neturei Karta, R. Moshe Blau (1885-1946) was head of the Agudath Israel in Jerusalem.
