Great-grandson of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz. Despite horrifying family losses in the Holocaust, the Rebbe became a source of spiritual and material succor for countless survivors, particularly orphans. Initially settling in Williamsburg after the war, in 1958 he moved to Israel where he founded Kiryat Sanz in Netanya. He was one of the great post-war Tzadikim who rebuilt a Chassidic world that had been almost entirely destroyed. A son of R. Dovid Dov Meisels (1865-1944) of Ujhel, Hungary, R. Elazar Meisels was known as the Ujhely Rov. He died in 1995.
