R. Avraham Shalom was the cherished son of the saintly Shinover Rebbe, R. Yechezkel Shraga, who in turn, was the eldest son of the great Divrei Chaim of Sanz. The Stropkover Rebbe was acclaimed for "his supremely lofty soul" and his court teemed with followers from across Hungary and Galicia seeking his blessing. After forty years in Stropkov, he accepted a post in Kashau (Košice, Slovakia) where he was revered as a living link in the chain of Sanz Chassidus.
