Lot 51
(PINKAS).

<<This Lot has been Withdrawn.>> (Vranov, Hungary).>> Pinkas Chevra Kadisha [Burial Society record-book].

Manuscript in Hebrew and Yiddish written in square calligraphic and cursive hands on paper. Opens with a beautiful title page that states a prior Pinkas was entirely full and many members deceased, therefore to “differentiate between the living and the dead” a new volume is here dedicated (on the 7th Adar). Following this are 13 takanoth, copied directly from the prior pinkas, along with a pledge to abide by them “without deviation.” There follows individual entries of names. The first page records the rabbis of Vranov: Rabbi David Schick (1812-90, author of Imrei David on the Talmud). Later hands have added the names of subsequent rabbis: Rabbi Zechariah Shapiro and Rabbi Mordechai Eliezer Ehrengrueber. Each entry is composed with a fine frame around a handsomely transcribed name, a few of which are in gold with colorful adornment. pp. 219 (excluding blanks). Original calf, titled on upper cover, rebacked. Folio.
