Internal Passport of one Leib Berkowitz Mendelevich Kaplan,

a Jewish Officer in the Russian Imperial Guard Battalion. Includes details relating to the rules of his rank, war-wounds, decorations and honorable discharge with "gentry privileges" in the town of Kronstadt. Russian, both printed and handwritten. pp. 8, 12, (30). Original calf, scuffed. 8vo.

This passport belonged to Leib Berkowitz Mendelevich Kaplan, a musician with the rank of petty officer in the Imperial Guard Rifle Battalion of the Czarist Military Services. Kaplan enlisted in the army in 1853, was honorably discharged in 1872 and married Sara Levinson. On p. 6, appears the attestation by <<Abraham Drabkin>>, Chief Rabbi of St. Petersburg, concerning the burial of their daughter Itta, in the Preobrazhenskoe Cemetery of St. Petersburg in 1888.
