R. Moses ben Mordechai Galante was a disciple of R. Moses Cordovero in Safed and one of the select few ordained by R. Jacob Berab at the time of the historic revival of the ancient Semicha (ordination). The Author was the grandfather of R. Moses ben Jonathan Galante (1621-1689) of Safed and later Jerusalem, who in turn was the maternal grandfather of Rabbi Moses Hagiz. See E. Carlebach, The Pursuit of Heresy (1990) pp. 29-31. The novellae of R. Isaac Aboab to Tractate Beitzah were penned by Isaac Aboab II (1433-1493), "the last Gaon of Castille" (EJ, Vol. II, col. 93). The novellae to Bava Metzi'a were mis-attributed to RITBA (EJ, Vol. XVI, col. 848).
