<<Rare Jerusalem Imprint of the Friediker Rebbe’s Wartime Proclamations.>> During World War II, Rabbi Yoseph Yitzchak Schneersohn, who escaped from Warsaw to New York, promoted a Messianic campaign via the Lubavitch periodical he founded “HaKeri’ah VehaKedushah. The thrust of his message was that there was no logical assurance that the Holocaust would not engulf America as it had Europe. Rather than place their trust in the Western democracies, the Jews of America should supplicate God with prayer and fasting. But even this would be insufficient - Jews must be cognizant of the fact that the present inferno is but the footsteps of the Messiah. The motto of the Rebbe’s campaign was “Le’Alter LeTeshuvah, LeAlter LeGeulah (Immediate repentance, immediate redemption).
