<<First Catholic Bible Printed in Latin America.>> Important and rare edition (only five institutional holdings in the US). This Catholic Bible was issued in direct response to the Protestant Bible printed in Mexico just a few years earlier in 1831-33 (see Kestenbaum Auction Sale 75, lot 127). Upon its publication, this Torres Amat edition became overwhelmingly popular due to the nature predominantly Catholic of the population of Mexico.
