Hinged container revealing three silver Festival plaques engraved in Hebrew. Together with three English later escutcheons dependent (part-marked with London maker JZ) the central one engraved “Presented to the South Portland St. Synagogue by Mr. L Freeman on the occasion of his daughter Lily’s 10th Birthday. 30th Sept. 1915’’. H: 38 cm.(15 inches). Glasgow’s South Portland Street Synagogue, also known as the Great (Central) Synagogue, was the last remaining Jewish congregation in the Gorbals until its closure in 1974.
