A polemical work written by Libowitz against one of his critics, who had accused him of plagiarizing the work of Geiger in his book, “Rabbi Yehudah Aryeh Modena.” Born in Lomzha, N.S. Libowitz (1862-1939) was a Russian Hebrew scholar and author who studied Talmud under R. Elijah Ḥasid and then under his own father, Isaac Libowitz; in addition he devoted himself to Hebrew literature, reading especially works on criticism. In 1881 he emigrated to New York. In several of his works he violently polemicized against such scholars as R. Isaac Hirsch Weiss, Ze'ev Schorr, Rodkinson, Saul Tchernichowsky, Deinard and Joseph Klausner. He immigrated to Palestine in 1927, but his longing for his children took him back to America. (JE).
