The Pro-Jerusalem Society was founded in 1918 and chaired by Herbert Samuel. Its mission was to focus upon the many aspects of civic life in the ancient city that the Military Authorities were not equipped to deal with. The objects of the Society, as defined in its Charter, were “the preservation and advancement of the interests of Jerusalem, its district and inhabitants.”
