The anti-Semitic German weekly, Der Stürmer, edited by Julius Streicher was published in Nuremberg between 1923 and 1945. Its slogan,"Die Juden sind unser Unglueck" ("The Jews are our misfortune"), was pasted on walls throughout Germany - in the streets, shops, schools, inciting the population to ever increasing heights of hatred. The headline for this issue, printed in red, reads "Judischer Mordplan gegen die nichtjüdische Menschheit aufgedeckt" (Jewish Murder plan against the Gentile population exposed). The cover illustration gruesomely displays dripping blood from the throats of blonde children, caught in a large salver held aloft by two sinister-looking Jews. Other illustrations include contemporary political cartoons as well as historical woodcuts presenting Jewish "atrocities," including that of Simon of Trent. This infamous “Ritual Murder Issue” revived the blood libels of the Middle Ages by announcing the presence of “irrefutable facts” concerning the ritual slaughter by Jews of innocent Christians for their blood. Presumed “proofs” are drawn from the Talmud and frequent quotations from the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.
