Prepared by Elias Hutter. Title within woodcut historiated border featuring vignettes of Biblical scenes including the Tree of Knowledge, Noah’s Ark, and the Binding of Isaac. Divisional title. Text arranged in six columns across two pages in the following languages: Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, Latin, German, Italian. Formerly in the library of Paul von Fleischl-Marxow (whose brother Ernst was a mentor to Sigmund Freud). pp. (6), 287, 851, 319. Initial leaves frayed, variously worn and stained in places, occasional light worming. Contemporary lavishly blind-tooled vellum over thick wooden boards, with Valmadonna-custom gilt-tooled morocco spine-labels. Thick folio. cf. Vinograd, Nürnberg 2; Darlow and Moule 1426; David S. Featuring (from left to right): Aramaic, Hebrew, Greek, Latin, German and Italian (in place of French as stated in title). Hutter produced four issues of this polyglot, with the sixth language differing - Sloven, Italian, Low-German, and French - depending on the intended audience. In the words of David S. Berkowitz, “The parade of linguistic learning is (little) short of stupefying” (Remembrance of Creation, p. 104).
