Berlin born, Peter Max Finkelstein fled with his parents to Shanghai where they resided for ten years before settling in Haifa. In 1953 they left Palestine for Paris and thereafter New York which became a permanent home. Max’s iconic artwork is especially associated with, and is an indispensable guide to the cultural literacy of the psychedelic movements of the 1960’s and 70’s. Ever since, he has populated his art with startling bursts of color within multiple media.
