Estimate upon Request ❧ “Hebrew Printing in America” was the unique collection for which the late Yosef Goldman was known throughout the scholarly and rare-book worlds (sold by Kestenbaum & Company, Sale 79, lot 210). However what was not known, was that while Goldman sought to build up his Hebrew Printing in America Collection, he was also undertaking the Herculean task of seeking to obtain every title contained in the mammoth catalogue prepared by Robert Singerman “Judaica Americana: A Bibliography of Publications.” Volume I (1676-1889) of Singerman’s Catalogue contains 3,877 entries. Singerman sourced this information from 71 separate libraries. Entirely through his own efforts, Goldman gathered and acquired more than 25% of the titles that Singerman lists.
