In this letter, legendary Jewish bibliographer and Bookseller Ephraim Deinard, informs Gaster he is sending his work Cherpat Britania (“Britain’s Disgrace”), a polemic criticizing British policy in Mandatory Palestine. Deinard also tells Gaster of Megilat Setarim, a limited edition publication printed on gold paper. In this work, Deinard, legendary for his attacks on sacred cows, vents his spleen against the veneration of Moses Montefiore, whom Deinard accuses of mismanaging the funds left by Judah Touro. Deinard also informs Gaster, himself a lauded bibliophile, of the sale of a fine library of Hebrew Books to Harvard University.
