During the American Revolutionary War, the Polish-born patriot Haym Salomon was the prime financier of the American army in its struggle for independence from England. Shortly after the conclusion of peace between the two sides Salomon suddenly died leaving his wife and children with debts. Over many years Haym M. Salomon (1785-1858) attempted to receive from the U.S government the payment due him as the rightful heir. Despite considerable agitation on his part, the proposed bill was never passed. See JE, Vol. X, pp. 653-655; EJ, Vol. XIV, cols. 695-6.
