Although born in Berlin and grew to become one of the leading proponents of Impressionism in Germany, much of Max Liebermann’s life (1847-1935) was spent in Holland, whose rather bleak paysage exerted a profound influence on his art. Friedrich Naumann (1860-1919) was a German social democratic politician and theologian.
