Especially known for his woodcuts, Jakob Steinhardt (1887-1968) emigrated to Palestine in 1933 after studies in Berlin and the Academie Julian, Henri Matisse’s art school in Paris. In the present picture one can experience Matisse’s Fauvist influence - bold visual or ‘painterly’ brushstrokes, strong colors and a subjective view of nature.
