Charcoal on paper. With initials “I.I” (presumably for the subject’s name). Unexamined out of glass-fronted frame. 13 x 12 inches / 33 x 30.5 cm (to mat).

Jozef Israëls (1824-1911) was the most respected Dutch artist of the second half of the 19th-century. This is an endearing image of Israels’ only child Isaac (1865-1934), who later rose to become one of the most respected artists of the Hague School.
