Samuel Judah was one of the first Jews to contribute to mainstream American literature. According to the author, it took him just four days to complete this historical drama of the American Revolutionary War, which was received “with unbounded applause” when it was performed in New York on Independence Day 1822. See D. de Sola-Pool, An Old Faith in the New World, p. 47.
