This collection of poems by the Dominican nun Violante do Céu (1601-1693) of the Lisboan Monastery De La Rosa, is dedicated to the Portuguese explorer Admiral Vasco de Gama. The publisher of the work was the Portuguese diplomat and author Manuel Fernandes de Villa-Real (1608-1652) who was was burnt to death in Lisbon on December 1st 1652 for the crime of Judaizing.
