Concerns the betrayal and imprisonment of Eduardo, or Dom Duarte of Braganza (1605-1649), brother of João IV, who became King of Portugal in 1640, after the Portuguese revolted against Spanish rule. Eduardo was serving as a lieutenant-general in the army of Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand III (King of Hungary, 1608-1657). The Spanish court persuaded the Emperor to deliver him into their power and thus, to be dramatic, the Portuguese Prince was sold by the King of Hungary to the King of Castile. (Spain and Portugal were at war with one another at this time, during the Thirty Years War, or as it is known in Portugal "The War of Restoration" - Guerra da Restauração, fought to oust the Spanish monarch and restore a rightful Portuguese king to the throne of Portugal.) And so, in 1641, Eduardo was imprisoned in Milan, Italy. He died in prison in 1649. Though the title does not state the place of publication, one ventures that it was printed in a German-speaking country for the price is given as "40000 Reistalerorum," i.e. 40000 Reichsthaler
