Roderigo de Castro was one of the most eminent of his celebrated family of physicians. His reputation was such, that he was called upon to treat the King of Denmark. In his private life, he was one of the founders of the small, but distinguished Sephardic Community of Hamburg. See H. Friedenwald, "The Doctors de Castro" in: The Jews in Medicine (1967), pp. 449-52; D.B. Ruderman, Jewish Thought and Scientific Discovery in Early Modern Europe (1995), pp. 294-99.
