William III (1650-1702), was born Prince of Orange, became Stadholder of Holland in 1672, and by way of marriage to Mary, eldest daughter of King Charles I, King of England. William and Mary were crowned together in 1689 and ruled jointly until Mary's death in 1694. A native of The Hague, William entered the city on February 5th 1691 to spectacular celebration, pomp and circumstance. Triumphal arches were erected throughout the city, which were illuminated with pyrotechnic displays. Evidently, William's townspeople relished the thought that he left Prince of Orange and Nassau and returned King of England. This slim volume recounts in rhymed verse the glorious event.
