Postcard signed and inscribed in German: “Thankful for the friendly reception.”

This postcard was sent from the Fifth Zionist Congress held in Basle on December 26-30, 1901. Though purely symbolic in nature, Herzl was able to share with his audience that he had been granted an interview with the Ottoman Sultan. On the practical level, the main achievement of this Congress was the establishment of the J[ewish] N[ational] F[und]. See EJ, Vol. XVI, col. 1168
